Good news for those who want to get or apply for the UMID or Unified Multi-Purpose Identification card.
You don’t have to wait several months anymore to get your UMID because according to the SSS or Social Security System, you may now receive your cards within 30 working days from your card application.
According to SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel F. Dooc, the production of UMID cards is now back to its normal processing time.
“We would like to inform our members that the UMID card processing time is now back to its normal processing time. Your UMID cards will be delivered right into your doorsteps within 30 days upon successful data capture via Philpost delivery.” – Emmanuel F. Dooc
How long does it usually take to release the UMID Card?
SSS said UMID cards are released for mailing within 8 days upon successful application and data capture of the member and will be delivered via Philpost within
- 2 weeks for National Capital Region
- 4 weeks for those with registered addresses outside NCR
The backlog in UMID card production was wiped out on the last week of September this year, Dooc added.
What was the main case of the UMID Backlog?
According to Dooc, the processing of UMID cards experienced a delay from mid of February 2017 due to the stoppage of operation of the Central Verification System (CVS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The CVS stopped operation due to high temperature of the data center of Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The CVS checks biometric uniqueness of member applicants, which is required prior to the issuance of UMID cards.
UMID Cards are now being processed and released
According to SSS ID Card Production Department, almost 1 million UMID card applications were affected by the delay since the machine overheat happened last February.
The good thing is that the SSS has already released some 1 million UMID cards to its members as of end of September 2017.
To date, SSS has already released more than 9 million UMID cards to its members.
Will this issue happen again?
We certainly don’t know about it (hopefully not) but to date, the temperature in DICT remained stable and compliant to the required temperature for data centers for the proper functioning of the CVS.
The CVS was housed in DICT by PSA after SSS turned over the CVS administration to PSA in July 2015. (Source)
Why you should apply for a UMID Card
UMID, as its name implies, is a unified multi-purpose card for 4 government agencies including SSS, GSIS, Pag-IBIG and Philhealth.
This is a primary and valid Identification Card which is very useful when you have transactions with those four government agencies. It’s much easier to check your membership, contributions, and to avail of your benefits using this card.
Requirements when applying for UMID
When you apply for a UMID card, make sure to bring valid IDs including Passport, Driver’s License, PRC ID, New Postal ID, and other supporting documents.
Fill out the UMID Application form with all the correct information and submit it to the nearest SSS branch.
Your UMID application will be verified by the SSS Personnel, then your ID picture, Biometrics, and Signature will be captured.
You will then be given an acknowledgment form with the estimated delivery date of your UMID Card at your preferred delivery address.
